Round Lundy Race

26 June 2021 (Subject to COVID Conditions)

Ilfracombe Yacht Club has been hosting the Round Lundy Race since 2004 and is the Club's main event in the yachting calendar for home and visiting yacht owners.

As with previous years, the race is held over one-day with the successful competitors covering approximately 45 miles.  Traditionally, the event attracts a great number of entries with the Trafalgar trophy being awarded to the overall winner.  There are also trophies for successful individual classes.

Sadly, the event was not held in 2020; the overall winner of the Tribute Round Lundy Yacht Race 2019 and the Trafalgar Trophy went to Lunasea – skippered by Nick Niklasson with a corrected time of 9:11:23.

And from the video vaults, we've got some great video footage from the 2018 race.

The registration of the yachts has started. We hope to see many of our old and new friends. Will you be joining us on the starting line?

The Government’s announcement of the “road map” out of this pandemic has left our June 12th date within Step 3 where we would be limited to no more than 30 people indoors and all seated at tables of no more than 6. When the club had to meet this similar requirement last year we found that 25 to 30 was all that we could manage seated at tables.

This would make the post-race prize giving etc more or less impossible, given that skippers and crew would have to wait outside the club until the race results could be announced at about 21.00 and only limited numbers then allowed in.

We have a suitably timed High Tide at 07.50 on Saturday June 26th  when the event will be in step 4 with no restrictions – subject to the Government not rolling back the various planned steps. (We start the race at 08.00 and last boat in by 20.00)

The skippers who have already paid their entry fees have confirmed that the 26th is good for them and other skippers and owners are responding that they plan to make the June 26th date.
